Within a Bio-psych-social model of health there are many factors associated with illness that are outside our control, such as inherited genetic and personality traits and the wider social, economic and cultural environment that we live in. Health psychology focuses on psychological and behavioural factors that are within our control, to help us cultivate healthy coping strategies.
